Why Gemini Is Censored

Gemini's blocking in China, Iran, Russia, and North Korea stems from distinct but overlapping state interests: content control, surveillance infrastructure, and geopolitical friction with the United States.

China blocks Gemini under the broader framework of its "Great Firewall" system, which restricts foreign AI services that cannot be monitored or filtered through state-approved channels. China's Cyberspace Administration (CAC) has not published specific directives against Gemini, but the service falls under general restrictions on foreign AI tools introduced after 2022.
